Introduction:

Surge capacitor is also called protective capacitor,widely being used to restrain switching overvoltage and atmosphere overvoltage. Usually, it is connected with a high voltage resistor in series to combine a RC absorb device.It can absorb the switching overvoltage caused by switching of vacuum switch.


A surge capacitor, also known as a surge suppressor or surge protector capacitor, is an electrical component used to protect electronic devices and electrical equipment from voltage spikes or transient overvoltage.

Model Selection

When the surge capacitor works as over-voltage absorbing device of RC in series,it is commonly with the high-voltage resistor of not less than 200W and 100Ω. The resistors can be fixed in the top of capacitor's bushings,but not standing the mechanical stress.

Why do we use surge capacitors?
